The Academy of Finland and EUTI will be holding an open Marie Curie Workshop on February 1st in Helsinki. There will be special emphasis on host driven actions ITN (Initial Training Networks), IAPP (Industry-Academy Partnerships and Pathways) and IRSES (International Research Staff Exchange Scheme).
Louise Byrne from the Research Executive Agency (REA) will be present to explain rules and procedures related to administrative and financial issues and to implementation of Marie Curie projects. This is a great opportunity to hear about Marie Curie administration directly from Brussels! In addition, Louise Byrne's contribution will be complemented by a real life experiences from Finnish organizations participating in Marie Curie Actions.
This will be an interactive workshop drawing on the cases and questions presented by the attendees in advance in the registration form. The training is intended to those preparing Marie Curie proposals or already participating in Marie Curie projects. Attendees should already have a basic understanding of FP7 and Marie Curie Actions to allow for a deeper analysis.

The 6th Central European Congress on Food - CEFood 2012 Congress will be held on 23-26 May 2012 in Novi Sad, Serbia.
CEFood Congress gives a unique opportunity for food scientists, researchers, technologists, producers and nutritionists, young scientists and students for presentation of results and findings of their own work, exchange information on new processes, promotion of networking and discussion about mutual cooperation, and advancement of interaction between academia and industry.
6th Central European Congress on Food will accentuate the novel technologies and traditional products for competitive and safe food products for European and global market. Program of this CEFood Congress will be focused on latest progress in fundamental and applied food science, research and development, innovative technology, food ingredients, novel trends in nutrition and health, functional and bioactive food, food engineering, food safety and quality and food and feed market.
Finally, the result will be also the dissemination of knowledge to the wider audience about the importance of food science, one of the most important strategic areas of the European and many national research strategies.

An International Conference Diabesity - a World-Wide Challenge will be held on 9-10 February 2012 in Brussels.
Diabetes causes severe health complications and is the fifth leading cause of death world-wide. The number of persons suffering from the "type 2" form of this disease is set to rise to some 900 million globally by 2030, with devastating health and economic implications. To counter this sinister scenario, increasing attention is given to research into the environmental and genetic risk factors for diabetes and obesity in specific populations.

An international conference „Challenges for Science in the Context of Globalization“ was held in Vilnius on 30th of September. The aim of the conference was to discuss about the challenges in formulating and implementing the research policy in European Research Area in the context of globalization.
The opening speech was presented by Mr. Gintaras Steponavicius, the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, Ms. Anne Hall, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius and Prof. Ramunas Vilpisauskas, director of the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University (IIRPS).
Several experts had been invited to give their presentations during the sessions of the conference: Prof. Zaneta Ozolina, the member of European Research Council, Prof. Arthur Bienenstock, the U.S. President’s special advisor on federal science policy issues, Prof. Indrikis Muiznieks, a vice-rector of University of Latvia, Ms. Jurate Deviziene, the member of the European Commision’s Steering Group on Human Resources and Mobility, Dr. Laima Galkute, the expert of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Ms. Aurelija Valeikiene, deputy director of the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (CQAHE).
One of the sessions of the conference was dedicated to the social dimension of science policy – the gender equality in science. The session was presented by Dr. Ioana Borza, representative of the European Institute for Gender Equality, Dr. Giedre Purvaneckiene, Assoc. Professor of Vilnius University, and Dr. Dalia Satkovskiene, president of the BASNET Forum and the board administration member of the European Platform of Women Scientists.
The session, committed to the strategy of research policy, was presented by Ms. Nerija Putinaite, vice-minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, Prof. Ruta Marcinkeviciene and Dr. Eugenijus Stumbrys, representatives of Research Council of Lithuania, Prof. Arunas Augustinaitis and Dr. Zilvinas Martinaitis, representatives of Mykolas Romeris University and the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University (IIRPS).
The conference was organized by Lithuanian Researchers’ Service Centre, Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University and BASNET Forum with the financial support of EU Structural Funds, U.S. Embassy in Lithuania and Lithuanian state budget.

BASNET Forum
BASNET Forum is an international association based on the member institutions of the unique network linking women scientists working in the sciences and high technology and science policy makers for insurance of equal gender opportunities in sciences in the Baltic States region.
The association was established 2009 for continuation tasks of FP6 project BASNET (Baltic States Network: Women in Sciences and High Technology) project. The main purpose of BASNET Forum is to mobilize the efforts of members to support the implementation of BASNET Women in Sciences strategy in the BALTIC States region.

The Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (Foundation for Science and Technology) of Portugal will launch the WELCOME II Programme, allowing Post-doc researchers of any Member State/Associated Country nationality living and carrying out research for the past 3 years in Third Countries (such as USA, Japan or China) to join institutions in Portugal, by signing 3-year employment contracts with their host institution.
Applications should be submitted jointly by the host institution and the individual researcher. All fields are eligible and research topics can be freely decided upon. Applications are assessed by independent peer reviewers.

An International Conference on Integrative Medicine will be held in October 2010 in Jerusalem. The Conference will deal with ways to unite the scientific principles of modern medicine with the holistic principles of alternative medicine, hosting a dialogue between professionals and participants from around the world.

The International Federation of University Women (IUFW) offers a limited number of international fellowships and grants to women graduates for postgraduate research, study and training. IFUW fellowships and grants are open only to women graduates who are members of IFUW's national federations and associations and to IFUW Independent Members. Fellowships are offered for the second and subsequent years of a doctoral programme and for post-doctoral studies. First year doctoral students do not qualify. Grants are offered for any postgraduate programme. The awards may be used in any country other than the one in which the applicant was educated and other then the one in which the applicant habitually resides.

Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) became a new member of EURAXESS network in Lithuania on the 7th of June, 2010. Newly established local contact point in International Relations Office of VGTU will assist incoming and outgoing researchers, publish available job vacancies and participate in various activities related to researchers’ mobility. Lithuanian Researchers’ Service Centre is very pleased with growing importance of mobility in research institutions. We do believe that collaboration among institutions inside the country and with the EURAXESS network will be fruitful for mobile researchers.
