Entry conditions/visas

Description

Depending on your nationality, entry conditions may apply, such as the need to have an entry visa, a residence permit or work permit. If you are a national from European Union Member State (EU) or Switzerland you do not need a visa to come to Lithuania. If you are from outside the EU you may need a visa, depending on where you come from and what you intend to do while you are in Lithuania.

EU Citizens

A foreign national, who is a citizen of one of the Member States of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and the Swiss Confederation (hereafter referred to as citizens of the European Union) may arrive and stay in the Republic of Lithuania for up to 3 months starting from the day of his arrival in the Republic of Lithuania. Citizens of the European Union who wish to stay longer than three months or have already been in Lithuania for longer than three months have to apply for residence permit. Temporary residence permits are issued for periods of up to five years.

Family members of European Union Member State citizen or other persons who are not citizens of European Union Member State, having arrived to live in the Republic of Lithuania for more than three months within half a year, who arrive together with citizen of European Union Member State or join him/her, must acquire a card granting family member of Union citizen a permission to temporarily live in the country. .

Non -EU Citizens

Non -EU Citizen who wish to stay in Lithuania for fewer than 90 days during a period of 180 days, only need a visa (unless visa-free travel applies). Non -EU Citizen who wish to stay longer, have to acquire a national visa or a temporary residence permit. For a long-term stay, usually in 5 years, they can acquire a permit to permanently reside in Lithuania. More information.
