About
The Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees can lecture and research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Career Stage: This Award is open to researchers, at any level, except early career. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D., or other terminal degree.
Disciplines: Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines, but applications in Biological Sciences, Engineering or Environmental Sciences are preferred.
Specializations: Applications in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences or Environmental Engineering, Development of Integrated Coastal Zone Management Strategies and Plans are preferred.
Grant Activity: Teaching / Research. This grant involves scientific consultancy and collaboration to evaluate the information available, prioritize actions and design monitoring programs towards the development of integrated coastal management for the Portuguese continental coast.
Host Institution in Portugal: Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), Algés, Lisbon, Portugal.
AWARD BENEFITS
Stipend: Maintenance allowance of €8,400 (corresponding to 3 monthly allowances of €2,800);
Travel: The Fulbright Commission offers a one-time payment travel allowance, intended as a contribution to international travel between the U.S.A. and Portugal:
- Travel allowance of €1,100, for scholar;
- Travel allowance of €1,100, for each dependent travelling with the scholar (round trip travel receipts are mandatory).
Dependents: The Fulbright Commission offers additional funding for dependents who stay with the scholar during the entire period of the grant:
- A monthly maintenance allowance of €250 per dependent;
- A monthly tuition allowance of €500 per child, when attending a private school (proof of enrollment is mandatory);
- A one-time payment allowance of €300 per dependent, to cover for Portuguese language and culture classes (proof of enrollment is mandatory).
Insurance: Accidents and Sickness Program for Exchanges (ASPE).
Housing: The host institution will provide a monthly housing allowance of €750; host does not provide assistance in finding housing).
Other: The host institution will provide computer facilities (PC and printer), internet access (wireless) and e-mail, office space and secretarial assistance. Access to laboratories and existing equipment will also be provided if needed.
DURATION
Grant Duration: Three months during AY2020/2021. Preferred starting months are April or May 2021, as agreed with the Portuguese host institution.
ELIGIBILITY
United States citizenship. Dual U.S.-Portuguese citizens are eligible to apply but will only be considered if they don’t have extensive experience in Portugal.
Candidates residing in Portugal at the time of the application, or any time thereafter, are not eligible for a Fulbright grant to Portugal.
